A massive burning of offerings by a group of people in red clothes was observed by many passersby at this area on the night of May 15th, 2011.
Rumours are linking the huge collective offerings to apparently "hundreds or even thousands of spirits" or "powerful" spirits to the recent Bintang Megamall "cleansing" or "relocation".
Even the local Chinese newspapers (See Hua Daily) have added to the speculation.

" 最大型超度法会 520祭品送“好兄弟”
（本报美里15日讯）美里有史以来最大型的“好兄弟”超度法会，在傍晚6时开始于史纳汀空地举行。
来自金香堂的善男信女，在主持黄金香的领导下，在早上9时就开始到超度现会为傍晚的“烧祭”作准备。
当局共准备了520份祭品给好兄弟，每“人”一份，一份包括一间双层独立洋房、一对纸扎公仔、50粒金银元宝以及一艘纸船。
由于在傍晚开始烧的纸扎祭品占地不小，在美里房屋发展有限公司董事主席拿督刘绍慧协助下，由工地工人在数日前搭建了临时凉棚，可以容纳百多名善男信女及义工在该处准备520份的祭品。
来自机场路大成花园的金香堂主持黄金香表示，这场大型超度仪式是她主持很多场超度仪式之中最大型的。
她形容，其实“好兄弟”也与一般人一样，并没有什么特别，四周都有，甚至在白天也可以活动自如。
谣言盛传不可信
“对外界盛传某购物中心的某鞋店关店后，有闭路电视拍到鞋子乱乱飞，翌日店员开店发现鞋子乱成一团；还有发现鞋印；更有传言称某购物中心将关闭数天等，那是虚假的传言，市民不应信以为真。”
拥有一对阴阳眼的黄金香表示，近来传出许多不利于购物中心的传言都是不可靠的，像所谓鞋子乱飞的鞋店根本都没有安装闭路电视，何能让人看到鞋子乱飞？
擅长赤手在恶灵附身者身上擒捉邪灵的黄金香，今日傍晚6时将地藏王菩萨的协助下超度这批亡灵。
也擅长替曾经堕胎、流产的妇女超度已故并附在母体幼灵的黄金香，许多当下的信女都曾在她的协助下，随后成为其追随者。
黄金香表面看似与一般妇女无疑，但却是作为地藏王菩萨使者，能出入地府自如，与亡灵沟通，“谈判”及超度。每逢初一、十五，金香堂都会有超度仪式在其住家附近举行。"

Bintang Megamall / Bintang Plaza, Miri
Rumours have been floating around Miri that almost 500 human skeletons were found at the construction site of the new hotel adjoining Bintang Megamall / Bintang Plaza (soon-to-be Meritz Hotel). They are believed to have been killed and buried during the Japanese occupation of World War II.
Many strange hauntings and "trance-like" happenings have also been reported. There were also several suicides and "accidental" deaths at the Bintang Megamall area.
I've also heard from a sales person there who has said that there is supposedly a powerful "lady in red" who is behind the deaths of several men there. The sales person said it is believed that the "lady" is out to kill 7 men in order to menjadi manusia (revert to human form)..after which she would drink blood to survive (pontianak).
Apparently the situation became unbearable to the shop owners there and a Chinese exorcist or bomoh was called but it did not improve the situation.
There are speculations that there will be some special prayers held in the area around mid to end May 2011.

Azim's House
Azim was a Curtin student. He was in fact a football player. He stayed in a typical student house in Desa Senadin. It was a normal house with 3 bedrooms. He stayed there with 2 other housemates. Azim had the master bedroom with the adjoining bathroom.
One night, both Azim's housemates were out, and Azim was home alone.
He was taking a shower when someone knocked loudly on the front door. He heard it and went out to open the door. But there was nobody there.
Azim went back to his bathroom, and continued showering.
Then there was a loud knock on his bedroom door. Azim got out of the bathroom and opened the bedroom door. Again, there was nobody there.
Azim locked his bedroom door and went back to his bathroom.
While he was showering, there was a loud knock on his bathroom door.
This time he ignored it.
Then, there came a loud knocking on the roof...

Little Terrier Barking
Jade was home alone. This is the same girl as here and here. It was late at night and her two housemates were out.
Usually, when she was home alone, her housemate's little terrier would stay close to her. The small dog did not like to be left alone. It was a very small dog, about the size of a medium-sized cat.
That night, it was raining heavily. The little dog was standing near the living room. The living room light was off, as usual. The little terrier was just standing there staring in the dark, in the direction of the front door.
Jade picked the terrier up and brought it over to her room.
But the little dog struggled and ran back to stare at the living room.
Jade tried to get the little dog to follow her, but the dog ignored her. The little dog started to bark. The tiny terrier was standing stiffly there barking at nothing. Jade tried to call the dog again, but it continued to stand there, barking.
Jade suddenly felt cold. Scared, she went back to her room and locked the door. She could still hear the little dog barking. The dog continued to bark non-stop for about an hour.

The Computer Lab in GP402
Frid was in the GP402 computer lab in Curtin (pictured above). He was rushing his assignment. It was late at night, and his assignment was due the next day. As it was late, there was nobody else there. He was alone.
Then, the lab door slammed open and shut. Rapidly and repeatedly. There was nobody there. Frid finished his assignment and quickly left.
Lecturer's Office
This story was told by a Curtin lecturer (pictured left).The lecturer, Ms. Andrea James, taught English. She shared her office with another female lecturer. Both lecturers maintained relatively short hairstyles.
Their office had a security camera, and could be monitored by the security guards. According to Ms. Andrea, a security guard told her that he had seen on the security monitors, a lady in white, with long dark hair, flying around the room...
Simy's Friend's Phone Camera
According to Simy, there is a house in Senadin, a double-storeyed house, the back of that house is facing the side door of Harmony Cafe (of course you can't see it from Harmony Cafe, since there's another double-storeyed house facing Harmony).
That house is supposedly haunted.

James's Previous Rented House
Once, long ago, Jade stayed at James's rented house in Desa Senadin while James and his housemates had gone back to their own houses (local Mirians). The semester was over, and Jade had nowhere to stay for a few days.
One night, the bulb in the bathroom was blown, so Jade lit candles to bathe.
Even though she stayed alone in the house, she locked the bathroom door. Halfway through her shower, she felt a slight breeze.
She looked around and the bathroom door was open...

Anaesthesia
Anaesthesia lived with her two male housemates in a small terrace house in Desa Senadin. She had the back room, nearest to the garden.
Sometimes when she slept, she was pressed. Bruises appeared on her body. Both her housemates had caught glimpses of a female sitting in her room. Sometimes there is knocking on her bedroom window, right behind her bed. And Anaesthesia hears her crying...
Anaesthesia moved out of that house and went to live with Cup and Jade. That was after the "slippers" incident at Cup and Jade's house.
Jade was never bothered again after that, she had been given a bottle of holy water and she hung a silver cross on her bed.
But sometimes, sometimes Cup and Anaesthesia had mysterious bruises when they woke. Once Anaesthesia had bruises shaped like fingerprints griping her arm...

One morning, Jade woke up and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth. The bathroom was right outside her bedroom door. After she had brushed her teeth, Jade noticed a sandal and a slipper outside the bathroom door. They belonged to Cup, but the ones outside the bathroom weren't a matching pair.
When Cup woke up, she went to the bathroom near Jade's room. Cup usually went to the other bathroom, as there were only two of them in the house. Jade was sitting at the dining table.
Cup saw her slipper and sandal outside the bathroom and asked Jade about them.
And Jade replied that she was just going to ask Cup why she put her footwear outside the bathroom.
Cup said, "it wasn't me."
They both looked at each other and rushed out of the house.
After they had calmed down, Cup and Jade went back into the house and looked at the footwear and talked about it calmly.
Then Jade pointed out the mop nearby and lifted it up. There were insects under it, as it had been left there while it was still wet. Jade asked Cup why she left the wet mop there without drying it out first.
And Cup replied, "I always thought it was you. I haven't mopped in months."
And Jade hadn't mopped since the beginning of the semester...

The Wavy Road Near the Curtin Junction
There is a very bumpy road in the Senadin area. When you drive on it, you feel like you're riding waves. The wavy road is after you turn left on the way to Curtin junction. Every time I ride on that road, I get a headache, it's so wavy.
Many accidents occur on that road, and it is said to be "dirty". Some say it is caused by the ghosts lingering around the bushes at the roadside. They say the ghosts are jealous of living people...

Bal
Apparently Bal could see ghosts ever since he was young. According to Bal, he once saw a pontianak sitting on the roof of the Curtin AL100 building.
Also, a female spirit was frequenting the area near his house, a terrace house in Desa Senadin, and it often went across the street to Anaesthesia's house (click here for Anaesthesia's experiences).
Bal stayed alone, and often had friends over. Once night, James and Jessica were at his house playing MapleStory.
They were drinking Coca-Cola, and suddenly they noticed that one of the Coke cans had been moved.
There were only 3 of them in the house and none of them had moved it.
Bal left the room, and James and Jessica heard him scolding someone in Malay not to disturb them. But there was no one else in the house...

The Tree Near the Campus Security Checkpoint
There's a huge tree near the campus security checkpoint. They've cleared all the trees in the area, but that particular tree is still standing. The excavators and trucks shut down when they attempt to pull it down or dig it up, and they are unable to clear the tree. People say that the tree houses spirits.
According to the security guards on night shift, some of the guards have fallen asleep and dreamt that there are babies in the tree crying...

The area of Desa Senadin and the nearby Curtin campus itself used to be a swamp. It is said that the spirits of the swamp area are powerful and cannot be chased away by conventional means (bomohs, Chinese mediums, etc) as it is their area, and humans are the ones trespassing.
