It happened a while ago, but Taz only decided tell this story now.
A while ago (end June 2010), there was a well-known hysteria case in SMK Dato Permaisuri, it was quite big news in Miri. That time Taz knew a friend whose sister was working as a teacher there.
The teacher said it was indeed a very scary happening because there was mass hysteria with school children screaming and crying uncontrollably, but according to her, there were 3 happenings that were the most scary.
The first was when a student was seen walking up a big old tree in front of the school compound "not climbing and not only walking like crawling but walking upright on the tree trunk!"
The school canteen staff had kept many trays of raw eggs in the canteen for their daily use but said that all their raw eggs stock gave out a very bad smell and had "suddenly turned rotten and busuk for no reason during the hysteria."
The third story was when the girls that were "under hysteria" were in the school surau and were being helped by the teachers, but many of the teachers also didn't know what to do.
And one girl was like shouting and crying but when the religious teacher prayed for her she stopped and "went to sleep" calmly, so the religious teacher went to see another student "under hysteria". But when the religious teacher went away, the girl opened her eyes again!
According to Taz, "But her eyes were all black no white at all like the alien movies!"
This is an excerpt from a Borneo Post article:
"They wept, screamed, struggled and fainted inside and outside their classrooms.
It was a chaotic scene and a hair-raising experience for many of the students, especially those who have never witnessed such an incidence before.
The victims who are mostly Form 3, 4, and 5 students cried and screamed (seemingly in great pain).
Some fainted inside their classrooms, outside the school compound, and under the sheds.
It is believed to be the first mass hysteria in the state this year.
It is also worth noting that it happened just when the PMR trial examinations started yesterday.
“This is where it started first,” a student (who declined to be identified) later pointed out to The Borneo Post.
He was referring to a Form 3 student who suddenly cried and started screaming inside the classroom.
By 12.30pm the situation was still not under control as some students sitting in the shed on their way back to school also became hysterical.
The teachers tried their best to handle the situation but in truth most of them seemed confused.
For want of better solutions to the problem, some of the victims were carried to the school surau.
A shocked father who was informed by a teacher that his daughter was hysterical said he immediately rushed to the school. He took her home to be treated by an ‘ustaz’
Hundreds of students coming for the afternoon session were shocked upon seeing the mass hysteria. They were soon told to go home for fear that they too might become hysterical."

Bintang Megamall Carpark - Against the Wall
Two ladies went to Bintang Megamall. They went to the Upper-Level Carparks, and the first lady dropped her friend off at the entrance, telling her that she would park and meet her at Parkson.
After more than 20 minutes, the first lady still did not meet up with her friend. Her friend was worried and called her handphone. However, the lady did not pick up her handphone, which was very unusual because she always picked up her calls.
The friend was very worried and went to look for her. She found her at the Carpark, against the wall. The lady was pressed against the wall and her feet were floating off the ground!
The friend and security guards managed to get the lady off the wall and after a while they managed to wake her up.
Not sure what floor it was, but it was one of the Upper-Level Carparks.

Bintang Megamall "Relocation"
A massive burning of offerings by a group of people in red clothes was observed by many passersby at this area on the night of May 15th, 2011.
Rumours are linking the huge collective offerings to apparently "hundreds or even thousands of spirits" or "powerful" spirits to the recent Bintang Megamall "cleansing" or "relocation".
Even the local Chinese newspapers (See Hua Daily) have added to the speculation.

Ghost Story from SMK St. Columba, Miri
There are instances of unusual happenings in a classroom in one of the SMK St. Columba classroom blocks (Block C, Classroom 4E4), where the lights and the fans would switch on without anyone inside the classroom and when the block was completely locked.
Such an "unusual case" also happened when Wong was in a Prefect camp there.
Wong was doing his duty rounds taking care of the Prefect Juniors in the opposite block, when he saw his friend in that very classroom. However, when Wong called his friend's name, "his friend" didn't answer..
Wong then walked further down, and he saw the same friend in the School Hall..
Wong:
"But here's the catch: the Hall is more than 200 meters from that very classroom, and it would have taken more than 3 minutes to reach the School Hall...
And it was impossible for him to have ran towards the Hall when the block was fully locked up.
True story..."

Bintang Megamall Level 6 Carpark Haunted! (2 Tales)
Mr. A and Mr. U went to Bintang Megamall recently and they parked at the Level 6 Carpark there. A security guard found Mr. A in a daze or trance, trying to insert his car key into the wall! It was lucky that the security guard was there because Mr. U was also under some kind of trance and was walking towards the far (dark) end of the carpark!
N had witnessed a similar situation. N went to Bintang Plaza one night to buy some things. After shopping, he went back to his car at the carpark. He had parked his car at Level 6.
At the carpark, N happened to see his close friend wandering around. His friend seemed to be wandering around by himself in a daze. N shouted to his friend and he seemed to "wake up". It was almost close to the place where there were several suicide cases.

Baram Field, The Next Morning
This incident happened more than 10 years ago, maybe almost 20 years ago.
HJ was working for a well-known Miri oil and gas company. That time, he was assigned to carry out workscoping for a project at the Baram field.

The workscoping team consisted of only about 5 men, and it was supposed to be a daily-tripping job, as there was no LQ at Baram.
However, the weather was very bad that day. The scheduled boat was postponed until the next day. So HJ was stuck there in the middle of the sea with no toothbrush, and no spare clothes. The men had to sleep in a porta-cabin, while waiting for the boat to arrive the next day.
The next morning, HJ was woken up by a strange sound. He distinctly heard a rooster crowing outside! HJ felt a chill pass through him. That was impossible, as there were definitely no poultry on the unmanned platform!
HJ is retired now, but he remembers that unusual morning even after so many years have passed. The morning he was woken up by a cock's crow in the middle of the sea.
According to HJ, there are many spirits out in the open sea and some things just cannot be explained.

Bintang Plaza Bata Shop (New Wing), Miri
There's a Bata Shop (Bata shoe shop) situated at the new wing of Bintang Plaza on the Ground Floor, near Secret Recipe Restaurant and Sushi King Restaurant. Some people have been saying that it's haunted, and each story is basically a variation of the same theme:
Ms. M's sister knows the owner of the Bata Shop.
Apparently the store is a mess and shoes are thrown all over when the staff open shop in the mornings. The owner was understandably not pleased and reviewed the CCTV recordings to catch the culprit.
However, when they reviewed the CCTV recordings, the owner and staff were shocked when they saw the shoes seem to fly off the racks by themselves...
Disclaimer: I haven't seen the CCTV ghost/spirit footage.

Ghost Gate at Bintang Plaza, Miri
There are rumours that a Kwai Moon Kwan (鬼門關 "Ghost Gate" or Portal to Hell) is located at the place behind Sushi King (New Wing) Bintang Plaza.
There is a small roadside altar (red Chinese altar) in that area. The roadside altar was initially only a small poorly built structure but it has been "renovated" and "upgraded" several times within only 3 years and now it is considerably bigger and more well-equipped than it used to be. According to rumours, the altar was "upgraded" because the spirits in the area are more powerful / becoming more powerful.

The area is also the location of a suicide case in late 2009, where a man jumped from the Bintang Plaza Carpark and fell to his death on the road somewhere behind Sushi King. During that time, the Bintang Plaza New Wing was still undergoing construction.

Bintang Megamall / Bintang Plaza, Miri
Rumours have been floating around Miri that almost 500 human skeletons were found at the construction site of the new hotel adjoining Bintang Megamall / Bintang Plaza (soon-to-be Meritz Hotel). They are believed to have been killed and buried during the Japanese occupation of World War II.
Many strange hauntings and "trance-like" happenings have also been reported. There were also several suicides and "accidental" deaths at the Bintang Megamall area.
I've also heard from a sales person there who has said that there is supposedly a powerful "lady in red" who is behind the deaths of several men there. The sales person said it is believed that the "lady" is out to kill 7 men in order to menjadi manusia (revert to human form)..after which she would drink blood to survive (pontianak).
Apparently the situation became unbearable to the shop owners there and a Chinese exorcist or bomoh was called but it did not improve the situation.
There are speculations that there will be some special prayers held in the area around mid to end May 2011.
Supposedly, the skeletons will be moved to an area in Senadin, another reputedly "haunted spot".

Eve's Mum, The Ghostly Car Near Civic Centre, Kuching
This is a story from Eve's mum, which is quite awesome. They are from Kuching.
Well, when Eve's mum was in her twenties, she often went out to play with her girlfriends, party, and all that.
One late midnight, at around 1 am, she was driving, wanting to send her friend back home, when she eventually stopped at this red traffic light somewhere near Civic Centre. The area is near the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Kuching. There are several cemeteries in the vicinity too, a Christian one, a Chinese one, and a Muslim one!
Eve's mum felt very curious looking at the car which was in front of her and remarked to her friend, expressing her curiosity that normally no matter how short a person is, when he or she is driving, the driver's figure can normally be seen from the back. Conversely, that night, Eve's mum was not able to see the silhouette of anyone driving the car in front of hers.
Extremely curious, she drove her car to the lane on the right of that car. The car was a very old model white car (Eve's mum could still remember the car license plate number and she mentioned it to Eve, but Eve can't remember the number).
To her surprise, there was nobody driving the car.
Instead, there was a guy sitting inside on the passenger side, who kept drinking from a bottle of beer. He was drinking non-stop as if someone was making or forcing him to drink more and more..
Then, the traffic light turned green and the car moved!
Driven without anyone driving it!
Refusing to believe what her eyes had just seen, Eve's mum changed lane and chased after the car.
Her friend scolded her, saying that it is already so 'soi' (means unfortunate or bad luck) to see such a 'thing', and now for god-knows-why she wanted to chase after it..?
But Eve's mum, always the daring and stubborn one, tried her best to chase after the strange car.
Unfortunately (or fortunately), she came to a turning on the road up and missed the car.
However, strangely, there was another car which was stopped at the side of the road with one Ah Pek (old man) standing next to the car. Getting out of the car, Eve's mum went straight up to the man and asked if he had seen a car without any driver passing by.
Calmly, the Ah Pek asked Eve's mum to return home immediately.
Back home, Ah Kong (means "Grandpa", Eve's mum's dad) asked her to bathe with water infused with pomelo leaves, which she did.
Eve's mum said the number of the car plate was the same number with the combination of the chinese lunar date and age of Eve's grandma when she passed away.
It might have been either 7071 or 7170 (Eve can't remember which one, and said that she can't ask her mum because she is currently in UK).
According to Eve, the number has come out in the lottery (TOTO or 4D) a few times already.
Eve especially remembers it because every time the number comes out, Eve's mum will recall the story of her encounter when she was young.

The Old Security Guard at the Bintulu General Hospital
There's this doctor in Kuala Lumpur, he has his own private clinic at Mines. However, many years ago, when he was still a young (new) doctor, he was stationed in Bintulu.
He was based in the Bintulu General Hospital.
He used to stay late shifts often, being young and inexperienced. Graveyard shifts.
One late night, he was chatting with an old security guard.
Doctor: "Hello, you dari mane?" (Hello, where are you from?)
Guard: "Local Bintulu.."
Doctor: "Oh, bawa bekal makan ke?" (Oh, did you pack food to eat?)
Guard: "Tak. Makan sudah.." (No. I already ate..)
The doctor points at a container.
Doctor: "Habis, s'tiap hari nampak kamu bawa bekal..?" (But every day I see you carrying this food container..?)
Guard: "Oh.. Itu.. Itu kawan saya.." (Oh.. That.. That's my friend..)
Doctor: "Kawan kamu?" (Your friend?)
Guard: "Ya.. Dulu dulu masa muda. S'orang kawan baik saya mati kenak acciden.. Saya tak bole buat apa-apa.. Masa itu.. Saya tanya apa dia mau.." (Yes.. Last time when I was young. A good friend of mine died in an accident.. I couldn't do anything.. That time.. I asked him what he wanted..)
Doctor: "Ya..?" (Yes..?)
Guard: "Dia jawab, dia mau dengan saya.. Jadi, saya ambil limau kasih lukak dia.. Simpan dia punya roh.." (He said, he wanted to be with me.. So, I took a lime to his wounds.. Kept his soul..)
Doctor: "... Ah?"
Guard: "Ya.. Doktor mau dengar? Tiap malam saya bole cakap dengan kawan.. Dalam bekas ini dia.." (Yes.. Doctor, do you want to hear it? Every night I can speak to my friend.. In this container he's kept..)
The guard made a move to open the container.
But the doctor said it was fine, he need not open it.
Spooked, the young doctor hurriedly made his excuses and left.
Azim's House
Azim was a Curtin student. He was in fact a football player. He stayed in a typical student house in Desa Senadin. It was a normal house with 3 bedrooms. He stayed there with 2 other housemates. Azim had the master bedroom with the adjoining bathroom.
One night, both Azim's housemates were out, and Azim was home alone.
He was taking a shower when someone knocked loudly on the front door. He heard it and went out to open the door. But there was nobody there.
Azim went back to his bathroom, and continued showering.
Then there was a loud knock on his bedroom door. Azim got out of the bathroom and opened the bedroom door. Again, there was nobody there.
Azim locked his bedroom door and went back to his bathroom.
While he was showering, there was a loud knock on his bathroom door.
This time he ignored it.
Then, there came a loud knocking on the roof...
Another time something weird happened at Azim's house, Azim was studying at his desk when he felt a presence behind him. He looked around, but there was nobody there. He continued studying, and again, felt something behind him.
So he threw a pen over his shoulder without turning around.
And the presence disappeared.

Under the Television
This story was told by a guy I know, and I am posting this on the condition that he remains anonymous, and several details are not to be posted.
There is a house near The Spring, in Kuching.
There is a house near The Spring, in Kuching.
Nothing strange had ever happened there before. One day, the girl who was staying there was watching television in her living room downstairs. She heard her mother call her from the kitchen. The girl shouted back and answered her mother, but there was no reply. So she went over to the kitchen, but there was nobody there.
She thought she had imagined it, so she continued watching television. Her mother came downstairs, and she told her mother what had happened. They decided it was nothing, and both continued with their business. The girl continued watching television, and her mother left the room.
Then, the girl heard a sound. The sound came from under the television. There was an empty space in the cabinet under the television set. The girl bent down to look under the television, to try to find out what was making the sound. She saw the blurred face of an old lady.
The girl was then possessed.
The guy who told this story refused to give me permission to post the details of her behaviour and physical condition when she was possessed.
Only recently, she was cured with the help of a bomoh. Her house was also cleansed by the bomoh.
However, she is still suffering from the effects of the possession. Again, no further details on her condition were allowed to be posted.

Little Terrier Barking
Jade was home alone. This is the same girl as here and here. It was late at night and her two housemates were out.
Usually, when she was home alone, her housemate's little terrier would stay close to her. The small dog did not like to be left alone. It was a very small dog, about the size of a medium-sized cat.

That night, it was raining heavily. The little dog was standing near the living room. The living room light was off, as usual. The little terrier was just standing there staring in the dark, in the direction of the front door.
Jade picked the terrier up and brought it over to her room.
But the little dog struggled and ran back to stare at the living room.
Jade tried to get the little dog to follow her, but the dog ignored her. The little dog started to bark. The tiny terrier was standing stiffly there barking at nothing. Jade tried to call the dog again, but it continued to stand there, barking.
Jade suddenly felt cold. Scared, she went back to her room and locked the door. She could still hear the little dog barking. The dog continued to bark non-stop for about an hour.

The Moth and the Old Lady
This happened in Kuching, in a house somewhere in the Sungai Maong area. An old lady had just passed away. She passed away peacefully, due to her old age.
Some of her relatives kept vigil over her coffin the following nights before the funeral, as was the Chinese custom. The old lady was very much loved by her family.
One night, some of her sons and grandsons were watching over her body.
They were talking, and joking around. Suddenly, one of her sons noticed a moth on the wall near the coffin.
He pointed it out to the others, and said it was their mother visiting them.
They all laughed and nobody took it very seriously.
Another son grinned and said, " Ma..if it's you, please turn to the left.."
And the moth turned to the left.
Her sons and grandsons all fell silent, and didn't joke around much for the rest of the night.

Bargaining with the Old Man
This happened more than 60 years ago, during the Japanese occupation of World War II. The Japanese had just occupied Kuching.
A young married couple who were first generation immigrants from China decided to leave Kuching and hide in the distant rural areas to avoid the danger. They travelled far, and came across a long-abandoned village. The fields had been left for many, many years and the village was in ruins. However, they decided to settle there and hide from the Japanese.
The couple started clearing the land and made themselves at home. One day, as the wife was clearing a part of the overgrown field, something sharp cut her leg. It was only a minor injury, and she continued clearing the land until evening.
That night, her leg was in terrible pain. It was swollen and she was unable to sleep. As days passed, the pain grew worse. And, the husband started having dreams.
The dreams were surreal. He felt like they weren't really dreams, as they came to him just as he was half-asleep and half-awake. The dreams were always the same.
A naked old man would appear to him and try to talk to him. But each time the husband avoided the old man and woke up.
The condition of his wife's leg was getting worse.
One evening, the husband decided to "speak" to the old man. The old man told the husband that he was alone, cold and hungry. He asked for some food and clothes. The husband told the old man that his wife's leg was in a lot of pain.
He told the old man about the war, and said that he promised he would go to town and buy some clothes as soon as he could (because wartime was dangerous, and he could not go straight away). In return, he wanted his wife's leg to recover. The old man agreed.
The wife's leg recovered very quickly after that. The husband kept his promise, he bought and burnt some offerings for the old man.
Later, the husband discovered that the sharp object that had cut his wife's leg was part of a human bone...

The Computer Lab in GP402

Frid was in the GP402 computer lab in Curtin (pictured above). He was rushing his assignment. It was late at night, and his assignment was due the next day. As it was late, there was nobody else there. He was alone.
Then, the lab door slammed open and shut. Rapidly and repeatedly. There was nobody there. Frid finished his assignment and quickly left.
The Girl at Padang Kerbau
This happened on the Padang Kerbau road in Miri (also known as the
Miri Bypass). The road is a shortcut from the airport to the Boulevard
roundabout.
One night, LG was driving with his friend on that road. It was about
9pm. He was driving his car alone, and his friend was driving another
car. LG's friend was driving quite a distance in front of LG. They
were headed for the Boulevard roundabout.
The road was very dark. LG was driving a Kancil, and his car lights
could only illuminate a small area surrounding the side of the car. As
he drove along, suddenly his car lights picked out a figure huddled at
the side of the road.
It was the figure of a little girl, crouching in the dark at the
roadside on the grass. The car lights just managed to illuminate her
as the Kancil was driving past. In the rear view mirror, it was all
dark.
LG broke into cold sweat. He accelerated and overtook his friend's car.
He said he is grateful the "little girl" didn't follow him.

From Alex (A Very Personal Story)
Alex lost both his parents when he was young. Both of his parents had passed away before he reached the age of 18. However, he is a cheerful and well-adjusted guy.
During his parents' funerals, a certain smell was especially poignant for him. The smell was a mix of the flowers and the white cloth that they used for curtains. Alex could never forget the smell, it was a smell that belonged to the funeral parlor.
A few weeks after the death of Alex's mother, he was having dinner with his aunt, when a moth came into the kitchen.
His aunt saw the moth and said, "Look, mommy came to visit."
But Alex thought to himself, "WTF..a moth? I'm a Catholic."
After dinner Alex followed his aunt outside to throw away the rubbish into the trash bin outside. After that, he went to feed his dog.
It was when he was feeding his dog that he smelt it..
The smell of flowers and the white cloth as if it were there, in the patio where the funeral was held.
From time to time, Alex would smell it in rooms, or outside on the patio when there's a breeze.
And all he can think is, "Ma..you came to visit?"
(Momok Ghost has decided not to disclose the location out of respect for Alex's parents. May they rest in peace.)
